Back in March I was commissioned by National Museums Liverpool to photograph Jim Moir (Vic Reeves) at the Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight. It's great to see the press the exhibition is getting.

Personal

For TDOV (Trans Day of Visibility) I was invited to photograph a local football club called Trans Enby FC. It was a true representation of the beautiful game in action. A proper example of how community, exercise and being outdoors can be good for you. I felt great from being on the sidelines and seeing them play. More photos at a later date.

Writing

Over on my newsletter, Hello Computer, I wrote about how I'm learning to rest more and pace myself due to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

The Dazzle Ferry launched 10 years ago. 10 years ago! Commissioned by Liverpool Biennial in partnership with Mersey Ferries, Sir Peter Blake designed a piece of dazzle inspired artwork to cover the ferry. It was only meant to run until December 2016 but like all interesting art, it has endured.

Next

I'm selling prints at The Hatch in New Brighton this weekend as part of the New Brighton Farmers Market. First time in over a decade that I've had an arts market table. Should be fun.

I also have work on display at The Hatch. A couple of my Safe Space prints as part of their 'The Seen Unseen: Dazzle and Camouflage' exhibition.

It was a joy to spend the weekend at the Museum of Liverpool documenting the TDOV (Trans Day of Visibility) events for National Museums Liverpool. Trans joy from floor to ceiling. Writing, artwork, poetry, music and interesting talks. The event was wonderfully put together by Spirit Level.

After a 6 hour drive I arrived in Great Yarmouth to spend a weekend photographing cosplayers in a family caravan park. It's a lot of fun photographing people who have spent months hand crafting their outfits.

7 years ago I launched a portrait project focusing on the lives of people in Port Sunlight to celebrate the village's 130th anniversary. There's a nice interview with me on the Double Negative about it. One of the portrait's was shortlisted as part of the 2018 Portrait of Britain prize.

In April I'm looking forward to seeing Helios at the Liverpool Cathedral. New work by Luke Jerram that features a floating sun inside the cathedral. It should be spectacular. I'll shortly be publishing some photos from a trans and non-binary friendly football game that took place on TDOV, and also a portrait series I did looking at trans visibility.

February has been busy. Here's a few of the commissions I've had;

• a fire performer for Royal Albert Dock
• portraits for World Museum Liverpool
• behind the scenes stills of a horror film for the Liverpool Biennial
• Luna New Year event for Lady Lever Art Gallery
• moving of HMS Conway anchor outside the Maritime Museum in Liverpool

It's been good to be busy with work. My yearly theme for this year is to "keep pushing", and while I've been managing health issues I have pushed myself when I can. Most recently I've been doing multi-cam videoing of live music. A challenge for sure, but interesting.

Personal

I've been out with the swimmers on a few occasions and I've also been working on documenting queerness with a side of body positivity on the Wirral. I'm curious about queer life here away from the big city of Liverpool. The quieter places. The music, celebrations of Pride and hopefully other things when possible. In February I photographed Danny Beard's "Dragged across the Mersey" event at Future Yard which featured Glorified Cabaret and Mickey Callisto. Loved it. So much joy.

15 years ago I was commissioned to photograph inside the newly finished Museum of Liverpool before it was fitted out with all the interesting exhibits it currently has on display. 15 years ago... wow.

See you next month. I've got 2 days in the middle of March that are 9am till 10pm jobs, back to back. Later that month I'm off to Great Yarmouth to continue working on documenting cosplayers on holiday. I'll show last year's work soon. It's fun.

Work

The year started with a group exhibition of work at Start-Yard in Birkenhead with Routes471 C.I.C titled "Future Retrospective". I submitted a series of 10 photos from around the Wirral. They will be up until the end of February in the main cafe space.

Also at Start-Yard in February is a series of prints celebrating Wirral's connection with New York. There are 3 prints of Birkenhead Park and 3 of Central Park, both in wintertime. I'm really happy with the work. Do go see it.

I've been working those early mornings to photograph the local wild swimming community in New Brighton. The light this time of year is beautiful and the cold water is fun to dip in. We've been out in hail, thunder and lightning, snow, and all the storms of the season. Safety first, fun second. There's now a highlights gallery on my portfolio.

While the River Mersey is an industrial river, on a cold winter’s day you can float to the sound of people laughing while geese fly overhead. My good friend Mark McNulty has an exhibition opening at the Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool at the start of Febuary. The photos are big, bold and wonderful to see. Highly recommend having a look.
