February 2025

Photography highlights including museum work, an exhibition and a look back 15 years into the past.

February 2025

Hello. How is it March tomorrow? I've got a couple of things to finish up and then I can get started on 2025, because my brain thinks its still 4th January.

Work

A large anchor is being lifted by a crane in front of the Maritime Museum in Liverpool.

February has been busy. Here's a few of the commissions I've had;

  • a fire performer for Royal Albert Dock
  • portraits for World Museum Liverpool
  • behind the scenes stills of a horror film for the Liverpool Biennial
  • Luna New Year event for Lady Lever Art Gallery
  • moving of HMS Conway anchor outside the Maritime Museum in Liverpool

It's been good to be busy with work. My yearly theme for this year is to "keep pushing", and while I've been managing health issues I have pushed myself when I can. Most recently I've been doing multi-cam videoing of live music. A challenge for sure, but interesting.

Personal

A performer in a sparkling, form-fitting outfit with black gloves is dramatically posed on stage, holding a whip, with intense lighting creating a vibrant purple atmosphere.

I've been out with the swimmers on a few occasions and I've also been working on documenting queerness with a side of body positivity on the Wirral. I'm curious about queer life here away from the big city of Liverpool. The quieter places. The music, celebrations of Pride and hopefully other things when possible. In February I photographed Danny Beard's "Dragged across the Mersey" event at Future Yard which featured Glorified Cabaret and Mickey Callisto. Loved it. So much joy.

Danny Beard at Future Yard - Pete Carr
I’ve photographed Danny Beard a couple of times at events but I hadn’t seen their main drag act. It was hilarious. If you get the chance, go see their show.

To celebrate Wirral's Birkenhead Park and New York's Central Park applying for World Heritage Status I produced a series of prints from both places taken during winter time. They were displayed at Start-Yard in Birkenhead.

A spacious, modern interior with a smooth, light-colored floor and plain white walls. A curved staircase can be seen in the background, leading to an upper level. The area is well-lit with ceiling lights and has a minimalist design, creating a clean and airy atmosphere. There are no visible furnishings or decorations, emphasizing the simplicity of the space.

15 years ago I was commissioned to photograph inside the newly finished Museum of Liverpool before it was fitted out with all the interesting exhibits it currently has on display. 15 years ago... wow.

Elsewhere

A group of diverse individuals stands confidently in front of the iconic Tower Bridge in London during sunset. They are posed on a platform, with some on higher ground, all showcasing their bodies while wearing purple harnesses. The scene captures a moment of empowerment and body positivity, with the sun setting behind them, creating a warm glow that illuminates the cityscape.

A year ago I saw this incredible photo by Luana Martignon. She recently did another shoot for International Women's Day and I look forward to seeing the work.

When you see these photos, reflect on the fact that every participant with a cross on their body is a sexual assault survivor. And let that sink in.

One month ago I shot a guerrilla group nude shoot in Tower Bridge, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Here’s how it went.

Next

See you next month. I've got 2 days in the middle of March that are 9am till 10pm jobs, back to back. Later that month I'm off to Great Yarmouth to continue working on documenting cosplayers on holiday. I'll show last year's work soon. It's fun.
